Nepal Cine Symposium (NCS) is a multi-approached film and arts event, ‘Something Like Film Festival’ taking place from 19th to the 22nd of November in KATHMANDU. Docskool, a documentary open school calls for participation in ‘Something Like Film Festival’ 2011. Docskool is inviting you to participate in this festival by submitting your short movies and documentaries.
“This is an international festival and we are already receiving films from film schools and international film makers”, says Festival coordinator AbhiManyu Dixit. “There are a lot of Nepalis living abroad studying in film schools, or making cinema on their own, or even Nepali Film makers in Nepal, I would like to invite all those students or independent film makers” he added.
‘Something Like Film Festival’ is jointly organized by Dockskool, Harke-Films and Short Film Factory. We’ve got the following press release:
Docskool; a network of filmmakers working in Nepal to promote cinema - will be organizing a South Asia focused international film network and promotion platform for cinema, scheduled to be held annually in Kathmandu starting 2011.
The first Nepal Cine Symposium is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu between 19th to the 22nd November 2011. The 2011 version will primarily focus on the possibilities of South Asian cinema, aiming to link filmmakers and the regional film markets to enable newer systems of both production and their circulation to be promoted.
On this occasion, we invite applications from filmmakers to submit films into the ‘something like a FILM FESTIVAL’ category of the event, which is the main film exhibition space of the symposium.
Focusing primarily on fiction films, and with two of the four categories dedicated to films from the last two years the festival aims to become a decisive space in enabling the larger goals of the symposium to take effect. The festival is envisioned as a link space for works to be viewed and networks to be built between the various film stakeholders who will be attending the symposium.
With listed invitee list from different festivals, funding agencies and distributors hitting 100; the symposium invites filmmakers and production houses to make use of this unique opportunity in linking with the global leaders of world cinema here in Kathmandu as we step in enabling the future of what underprivileged cinema can become.
Discounted travel and accommodation fares are available for filmmakers and film stake holders who wish to join us for the symposium.
Submissions to the festival is open until 30th of August 2011 into four categories. The categories are: World Back 2( Phenomenal global features form the last two years); Everest to Male’ ( Features form South Asia from the last two years); Cine Queer ( Exhibition of shorts anf feature length fiction & non-fiction films on the subject of queer) and Celebration of shorts ( exhibition of short films).
The Nepal Cine Symposium is organized by Docskool in collaboration with several art and film organizations and has been endorsed by the Film Development Board of Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board.
