A well renowned nepali music band called Kutumba performed live on KU [Kathmandu University] Dhulikhel, Kavre last Friday [16th November '07] on the occasion of Youth Solidarity Festival ‘07 organized by SWC [Student Welfare Council] of KU.
They have performed a half dozen of music [both their’s original and others creation]. ‘They are the original nepali band’, one commented on their performance.Basically they use flute, skin drums, tungna, sarangi.Any music lover loves their music.
Automatically we feel better when we listen/see their performance. After their wonderful performance, I interviewed with them. And I come to know the fact that, their band was stablished in 2004 .
Kutumba is a folk instrumental ensemble committed to the celebration, research and preservation of the diversity that exists in indigenous Nepali music. Kutumba firmly believes that the richness in Nepali music is directly significant of the rich diversity that exists in the Nepali people.
There are total 7 members in Kutumba. They are Raju,Rubin,Siddartha,Binaya,Pavit,Rasil and Arun. And basically Raju and Pavit plays ‘Skin Drums’,Rubin and Binaya plays ‘Flute’ similarly, Siddartha plays ‘Effect’,Rasil plays ‘Sarangi’ and Arun plays ‘Tungna’.
In their band till the date they have 48 nepali traditional instruments.
And till the date they have released three albums called ‘Kutumba’, ’Folk Roots’ & ‘Naulo Bihani’ and next one is coming soon. They have created about 20 music [their’s own creation], which gives pleasure to our mind.
Kutumba’s music is beautiful and its beauty is rooted in the blend of its diverse forms of instruments. By combining indigenous instruments and musical styles of a wide range of ethnic groups, Kutumba has all along found harmony, and succeeded in popularizing indigenous Nepali music among Nepali youth and folk connoisseurs worldwide. Now Kutumba feels the need to take their music to the places and people it came from, to the villages, and share with them and learn and inspire to grow to newer heights.

ReplyDeleteI heard KUTUMBA in NTV 2 and while listening them i found that my eyes were in wet condition without my known. There music (without any voice) was so heart touchy ...I don't know did you guy get the same experience or not but one thing is that it would be more intresting and amazing to listen them in evening environment with a little bit chill climate...I think in band like performance that new experience can not be felt.
